Step into the Mind of Jasmyn Rowe

Jasmyn Rowe is a Canadian artist living in Toronto, Ontario. She practices mixed media, photography, and jewelry making, focusing on the idea of black narrative and lifestyle. Jasmyn prefers to focus her creations on the naturalistic lifestyle, mixed with her inner thoughts and processes. Through nature inspired surrealism, Jasmyn portrays social situations and opinions while letting her creativity express them with individuality and uniqueness.

"Battling stereotypes and redefining "blackness" is a prominent theme in my artwork. What does it mean to live inside a black body? What assumptions are made about you? How much do you let those assumptions determine your actions and path? In my work, I don't want to provide an answer; I want to give a feeling and a possibility. As an individual who never felt a sense of belonging in society, I'd often daydream of a world where I felt comfortable, accepted, and a sense of belonging. I found this world through painting. My narrative is like no one else's, but I want to relate to many through my art. "
